Accessibility

Last updated October 25, 2026.

The short version

  • We want everyone to be able to use this site and come to our events.
  • The site works with a keyboard, a screen reader and reduced-motion settings.
  • Need an accommodation at a showcase or KonneX? Email us ahead of time.

This website

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. In practice that means:

  • everything works with a keyboard, and you can always see where focus is;
  • there's a "Skip to content" link at the top of every page;
  • animations are reduced when your device asks for reduced motion;
  • the home page's background video never plays sound, and has a pause button;
  • videos open in a dialog you can close with Escape, and skip through with the arrow keys;
  • images have text alternatives, or are marked as decorative when they're just texture.

At our events

If you need an accommodation to attend or take part in a showcase, KonneX or another neXus event, such as accessible seating, an interpreter, or details about the venue's access, email us as early as you can. We'll work with the venue and the University to help.

Known limitations

Our videos are hosted on YouTube and use YouTube's player. Most are dance covers set to music with no dialogue, so they don't have captions. Video thumbnails come from YouTube and may contain text that isn't repeated elsewhere; the song and artist are always written out next to them.

Tell us what's not working

If something on the site is hard to use, email uchicagonexus@gmail.com with the page and what went wrong, and we'll fix it.

Students wrote this policy for a student organization. It isn't legal advice, and University of Chicago policies still apply.
